I have a US (Region 1) LG RC797T combo DVD recorder and VHS (needed to get a bunch of old videos onto DVD before they finally died)
Coming from the UK by way of Aus I've got a number of region crippled DVDs that I'd still like to beable to watch.
My Media Center is runnin AnyDVD from Slysoft but sometimes the simplicity of the DVD player is better for my daughter or babysitters..

I've tried some (most) of the LG hacks listed here but not found one that works yet (working on the others as I get time) but any short-cut would be appreciated.

I've seen the RC797T (or very similar looking model) on sale last time I was in the UK so assume there's at least 2 region variants on this... hopefully region free ispossible ;)

The following is copied from another site.

"Click the HOME button on the remote with the unit in 480i resolution
   Click the setup page
   Click Start
   Click TV Aspect
highlight the 16x9 wide aspect ratio
enter on remote control this coded sequence:
   1397139

   Edit specific "Options"

   Option 2:  35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback)
Option 4:  ff   (enables Vcd and SVCD playback)
Option 5:  ff   (enables region free playback (region 0) DVD playback)
Option 6:  ce  (enables Insignia brand startup logo on boot)
Option 6:  c0  (enables LG brand startup logo on boot)"

Options 7 and 8 seem to be various analog and digital tuners for different countries.  As near as I can tell thus far none but the default of

Option 7:  04
Option 8:  15

work properly in the US.  It seems that changing these to a couple of settings thought has no effect.  For instance changing them both to 05 seems to work as well.  Depending on the change, changing Options 7 and 8 to say 14 or 1c will disable the tuner altogether.

For any of these options to take effect you must turn the receiver off and back on again.  I have found that some of the changes on options 7 and 8 make my audio receiver lock up on the digital sound and takes a few minutes of fooling with the audio receiver to get it to stop after returning the original settings on options 7 and 8 on the LG.  Otherwise so far I've found nothing that can't be easily returned to original settings.  I highly advise writing your original settings down!

I haven't found a macrovision or hdcp hack for the RC-797t thus far.  I have this unit and if I find one I'll post it.  If anyone else knows of one I would GREATLY appreciate it OR a HDCP hack.  The HDCP more so since I don't have a HDCP compliant TV and when I adapt the HDCP to component I still get a few problems here and there with the video using a VisionFC4.

This hack works on a number of LG units.  The open tray hack as near as I can tell doesn't work on the LG-797t.

It appears that options 1 and 3 are HDCP and Macrovision.  I've tried codes b(a-9),c(a-9),d(a-9),f(a-9),9(a-9) on both at the same time since I don't know which is HDCP or Macro.  I'm nearly sure ops 1 and 3 are the HDCP and Macro (although I may be wrong) due to the fact the HDCP changes through my visionFC4 adapter on many settings.  It streaks the picture through the adapter.  The streaking gets more or less apparent depending on the setting.  So....That means I've tried 160 combinations so far.  If it's possible using the method I'm using, I'll eventually find it.  It's very tedious to do since the receiver doesn't support inputting the codes on anything but 480 and the problem doesn't occur except on 720 or 1080.  This is further complicated by the fact I have to sit by the machine and change the resolution since it can't be done from the remote.

blueskip....

How do you enter/change these codes? By using the arrow keys on the remote?

Secondly in the options screen it says something like this: "Enter" to edit setup - "0xE0" to init setup - "0xDF" to exit
How the heck do you enter code 0xDF to exit? What keys do you have to press?
